Vive la résistance.

Happy Labor Day! This is your PSA that today is a celebration among workers who organize to provide mutual aid and solidarity in the face of the abuses of late capitalism, especially in Central Florida’s entertainment culture.

At the Ren:

  1. We pay people for the work they do, and we pay on time.
  1. We always pay at least what we consider to be a bare-minimum living wage, $15/hour.
  1. We actively discourage a culture of tiredness, overwork, stress, and burnout, for all employees, including ourselves.
  1. We value time off. It’s a part of your compensation, and we encourage our people to enjoy theirs. We try to structure our teams so you don’t have to follow a bunch of unnecessary rules about when you’re allowed to use the time you’ve earned.
  1. We won’t abuse you by “hiring” you as an “independent contractor” unless that’s best for you. Instead, our people can work as normal W-2 employees. It costs us more, but you’re covered by our workers’ compensation insurance, and get other basic benefits like family/medical leave and unemployment coverage. It also makes your taxes easier at the end of the year.
  1. We prioritize the health of our people, and we require vaccination against COVID-19 to work for us or to attend our events.

We’re a new company with a lot to figure out. There’s a lot more we have to do to protect each other. But we think this is a good start.
