Hey y'all!

Thanks for coming to Milk, the third show of 2024! I hope you love the show.

The Ren produces only original and unique work, and I hope you'll come and see more shows. One very exciting thing happening is that The Ren is making our Off-Broadway debut this summer with From Here. Before we head to NYC, we'll be producing the show here from March 22-May 5th. I hope you'll check it out: fromhere.com.

Also, if you haven't, come and check out our weekly events (Musical Mondays is a weekly cabaret and open mic night, and OTR Wednesdays is a weekly late night show featuring the #art of drag and a celebration of queer culture).

Meet the Cast

Miguel Antonio Algarin Flores originally from Puerto Rico, is excited to bring his passion for theatre to The Ren! Before starring in Milk, Miguel has starred in his high school (Boone High School) and college productions (FloArts/UWF) such as All Shook Up, Anything Goes, Gypsy, Company, A Man Who Killed Time, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a gender-bent cabaret called Broadway Inside Out. Outside of his college career, Miguel has starred in productions such as The Hangout’s Pirates and Princesses, another gender-bent cabaret called Every Which Way Cabaret at The Gordon Theatre, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, and most recently the fundraising event Renburn here at the Ren! Since moving to the US in 2014, he has been pursuing his dreams and sharing his talent with the world. Insta: @Antto.nio

Jullien Aponte trained at the University of Central Florida. Some of Jullien’s favorite stage credits include Qualia (Seth), The Cocaine Play (Pietro), Twelfth Night (Sebastian), Richard III (Buckingham), The Tempest (Ferdinand), Mojada (Jason), Water By the Spoonful (Elliot), and Much Ado About Nothing (Claudio). Follow @AponteJullien on socials or check out JullienAponte.com for more!

Matthew Beaton is a local Orlando actor. His previous stage credits include Of Mice and Men (Whit, U/S Lennie), The Interference (Jerry), Seussical: The Musical (Horton), and Fools (Leon Tolchensky), as well as various original plays and new works. Matthew holds a B.A. in Theatre Studies from the University of Central Florida. When he is not on stage, he can be seen performing at Universal Orlando Resort, as well as in film and voice work. He would like to thank his family and friends for their unending encouragement and support throughout the years.

Danielle Bloom is a triple air sign who has been gracing Central Florida stages for the past decade. She was most recently seen as Alice in New Generation Theatrical's production of Closer. More commonly she can be found trying not to swear on mic in front of tourists at Universal's Islands of Adventure. When she's not reading smutty fantasy novels, she spends her time working with the community to plan nerdy interactive events with The Bombshells Cosplay. This is her first show at the Ren and she is so excited to see you all get MILKED!

Alaina Rene Kizer is a Former Child Star and Johnny Carson enthusiast. She is totally stoked to be making her debut with the Renaissance Theatre! Alaina can recite the alphabet backwards and recognize soft drinks based on smell. She can be seen amongst sweaty tourists at Universal Orlando daily. Favorite previous credits include, The Tempest (Miranda), Boeing Boeing (Gretchen), Rhinoceros (The Logician), Hairspray (Penny), and The Music Man (Marian the Librarian). This performance is dedicated to her tortoise, Nathan. For more personal information, write to her mother.

Paula Parra has been acting for over 9 years. Some of her show credits include Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing), Gwendolen (The Importance of Being Earnest), CB’s Sister (Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead), and Juror #3 (12 Angry Jurors). She graduated with her BS in Health Sciences and currently works as an EMT. She would love to thank her family and friends for constantly supporting her and her passion for her craft. She is so excited for her debut here at the REN and hopes to call this place her home in future projects! Remember, it’s always the hot ones. Also, we’re the only species that drinks milk from another species. Think about that.

Adonis Perez-Escobar is an Orlando based writer, actor, and all-around artist. He recently wrote and starred in The Cocaine Play, produced here at the Ren. Other credits at the Ren include Nosferatu (2022 & 2023) and La Medéa. Other Orlando credits include Much Ado About Nothing, Henry IV Part 2, and Henry VI Part 1(Orlando Shakes). Regional credits include The Comedy of Errors, Book of Will, The Tempest, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged (Illinois Shakespeare Festival), Henry V, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Charley’s Aunt (Michigan Shakespeare Festival). Adonis received his BFA in Acting from the University of Central Florida.

Meghan Ottomano is thrilled to be back in her second show with the Renaissance Theatre Company. When she is not enjoying a cold glass of chocolate oat milk, you’ll find her performing at Universal Studios or spending time with her sweet Nova Doo (cutest dog of all time). Her most recent credits include the Office Holiday Party…(Charity), The SpongeBob Musical (Plankton/Karen), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy Park). She’d like to thank her parents for always comforting her any time she cries over spilled milk. For more about Meghan’s milk preferences, you can follow her on social media @meghanhelen_

As many others here do, Joey wears many hats at the Ren. Other than painting he also does some carpentry work, makes all the neon signs, does some design work, and oversees the lights and photo op sets for our weekly drag show, Off The Record (Wednesdays), as well as some other special events/projects. Some of Joey's previous work includes designing the Church and VBar for Nosfera2, the Cataco(o)mbs and the Conservatory for Nosf3ratu, and the Winter Wonderland for the Winter Late Night Party Drag Exxxtravaganza Show ("who names these?"); the photo op sets for both annual fundraisers, Money, Please; and lights for the internet-breaking RENAISSANCE @ the Renaissance drag show amongst other things.

A Note from the Playwright

Hi! Welcome to MILK at the Ren. I want to thank you so much for coming to see my show and choosing to support new, local theatre! I love and respect the classics, like Molière and that one guy, William Something, but I just feel there are so many new and exciting stories to tell, on top of historically overlooked voices that deserve the spotlight, too. Obviously, I’m a little biased, but I think the point still stands.

I have a complicated relationship with milk, the beverage, stemming from the fact I’m lactose intolerant, but as for MILK, my play, I could not be happier with my absurdist, sexy, dairy-obsessed love child. I wrote it last fall, during my last semester of college, as I prepared to graduate and officially started “adulting,” and I had a lot of feelings about it! Ever since the pandemic, I think us American people have become much more aware of the draining hustle culture that we find ourselves trapped in. Why do we slave ourselves away for 9-5s?  Why don’t we have jobs we like? Who wants a job, anyway? (if you’re hiring, please see me after the show). As a child of Latino immigrants, I also know what it’s like to be part of a more Americanized generation than your family, and a lot of things come with that: differences in ideals, the ability to reflect that only comes with growing older, and sometimes killing each other. The craziness of this show was my way of helping us all through these crazy times while capturing some of that Latino experience. After all, what beverage other than milk could conceptually work to juxtapose a propaganda-fueled, capitalistic mindset and intimate, familial bonds? The answer: no beverage.

I am so grateful to have this amazing opportunity to showcase my writing so soon after my graduation, especially at a theater whose work I admire so much. So without further ado, sit back, relax and get ready to drink some Milk! Cheers.
